There is always time for a celebration

We, as women and/or mothers are often so busy with the day to day tasks we often forget to take a moment to celebrate and preserve the important times of our lives. Too often there is work, laundry, the kids need us, our partner needs us and carving a little space for ourselves to celebrate a moment can be difficult or deemed extravagant.

But it is important. Studies for years have shown that like attracts like and positive emotions and thoughts lead to positive experiences. So in our crazy rush-around world taking the time to do something positive and uplifting can have quite an impact on our sense of wellbeing and even our experiences.

Amanda, busy mom on her fourth pregnancy says, "I don't think I have even one picture of me pregnant!" Hearing that, as I prepared to head over to her house to do her belly henna, I grabbed my camera and added a few props to my basket as well. The warm December day was perfect for an outdoor photo shoot after her belly henna!

While I worked on her henna, Amanda had a rare chance to put her feet up and relax in a cozy plush chair as our children played sweetly in the warm yard. We chatted about how the application of henna on the pregnant belly is so relaxing and how it is believed to offer protection and luck to the unborn baby and mother.

I personally love adding a bee somewhere in the henna design. Bees are sacred to Artemis, who is the patron Goddess of midwives and watches over women in childbirth.

And now Amanda has her pregnancy photos, as she puts it, "After four pregnancies, I've earned this body!" And she will be able to share her photos of her beautiful belly as she shares her stories with her children.

Cosmeos

"A mythical Greek goddess whose name meant harmony and balance, Cosmeos gave to mortals the gift of herbs, flowers, and other simple pleasures to nourish the body and soul. She personified radiant health that flowed from a core of harmony and balance. Cosmeos never sought to mask what she was or how she looked; rather, she fed her inner fire with the eternal gifts of the earth. Her beauty was abundant as the flowers growing wild on the hillside and as powerful as the granite bones of the mountain.
The modern word cosmetic stems from the Greek word kosmeticos, meaning "skilled in adornment." This is precisely what Cosmeos was all about; it was never her intent to cover up; she used her creations to revel in who she was. She is one of my favorite goddesses. I envision her as a wild woodland creature running free through the forests with her sister herbalist Artemis, whose name also has been immortalized in the name of a plant.
Cosmeos, though much misunderstood in the modern-day world of beauty, still yearns to flower in each of us. Her life force is in the rare and unique beauty that resides in the heart, that inner sparkle of the eyes and the radiant glow of the skin. Her teachings are not about what makeup to paint your face with or how to arch the curve of the eyebrow but are, instead, lessons rich with the lore of plants, of health and playfulness."

Welcome to In Harmony Goddess Traditions!

We are a new venture of sister spirits called together to share the gift of soulful communion and sacred play with other women. Last night, nestled in the rolling hills of Napa, we did just that.

As the sun went down, our sacred space came to life with candles, crystals, flowers, soft fabrics, soft music and goddess images creating a safe and nurturing place for us to engage each other in a positive celebration of being women.

Guests partaked in the age old custom of adorning themselvevs and each other. We offer colorful sarongs to drape about ones body and a crown of silk flowers to enhance the inner and outer beauty of each woman.
.....and a bit of glitter, 'cause, well... it's glitter!! and glitter needs no excuse.

The scents of roses and other herbs from the bath salts we made filled the air....
We each stirred our previously pulled affirmations into the salt....
"I am right where I am supposed to be."
That is what mine said.
"I am surrounded by loving caring people in my life"
Said another.
Six more affirmations, six more intentions stirred into the mixtures of salt, herbs, seaweed, and essential oils. (I can't wait to take a bath with those salts!)

Hands were massaged with oils scented with rose and vanilla, and then decorated with henna.

There was laughter and quiet moments, singing, drumming and really great food.

Thank you for visiting our little corner of the web and please come back soon as we continue to update bits and pieces here and there.
